What is the trade of acting without those actors who go AWOL? It’s always happened and it seems like they draw lots to see who takes turns to fill their body with prescription drugs and alcohol, only to be derided by the press (and bloggers) and fleetingly lose their sparkling acting careers.
Last week saw the Hoff get hospitalised after an exceptional binge starting at Simon Cowel’s ridiculous 50th and ending up at St Martin’s Lane Hotel. I’ve seen the Hoff there many a time before, drinking in Bungalow 8. Everyone loves it when he’s down because let’s face it, he is The Hoff.
An 80’s throwback who’s risen like a phoenix from the ashes of a truly dire decade. When he’s around, everyone reverts to a child like form. One time when I was there, he bought shots for the whole club. A rare act of generosity that puts rappers and footballers to shame.
But unfortunately, the Hoff has been battling a severe case of alcoholism. And the world knows ever since his daughter recorded him, massively wasted and trying to eat a burger off the floor.
Does it effect is acting career? Well somehow Hoff has managed to hold his job on American Idol. People feel sorry for him. As for a return to acting, does he even need to?
Then there are the more modern celebrities like Lilo. Lindsey Lohan really goes all out when it comes to partying. Not only is she out almost every night, it seems like she’s only getting more crazy. Though her acting career is on the decline due to her behaviour. Studio bosses are petrified of taking her on for fear of scandle, or worse. Costly delays to a filming schedule.
In an interview with Radar magazine, her father said that prescription drugs were to blame. And that really is sticky territory to be getting into post Jacko.
So, as history repeats itself in a never ending cycle you can’t help but wonder who will be the next celebs that don’t take gracefully to stardom will be. I’d like to take bets on which ones of the Gossip Girl cast will end up in rehab. I’d say there’ll be good odds on at least one. Till next time.
xoxo
